CARING FOR YOUR GRANITE or QUARTZ
Top tips from Lowton Granite on caring for your new worktops
Care and maintenance of your Granite / Quartz is important, the advice below will ensure you keep your surface in excellent condition.
Ensure any spillages that occur from fluids such as red wine, fruit juice, tomato sauce, lemon juice, beetroot and curry are wiped us as soon as possible, as this may etch or stain the polished surface.
Clean surfaces using a sponge or soft cloth with washing up liquid, dry immediately with paper towel or micro fibre cloth to avoid streaks.
Do not use abrasive or corrosive cleaning products such as bleach, vinegar, ammonia or anything containing acid which may degrade the granite sealer, leaving the stone more vulnerable to staining.
Use cutting boards rather than cutting on your worktops.
Use coasters for hot and cold drinks, and trivets for hot dishes and cookware will stop stains on your worktops.
Hot pans should not be placed directly onto your worktops.
Sitting or standing on your kitchen worktops is not recommended, unlike laminate worktops, granite and quartz is very hard and movement is restricted. Too much weight in one spot could cause a crack or the joint may despatch.
All granite requires resealing at least every 18 months this will ensure that your worktops stay sealed and in pristine condition. We recommend Lithofin “Stain Stop”.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS GRANITE?
Granite is an intrusive igneous rock (formed from the slow cooling of magma underground); the major component of the continental crust, coarse grained, and composed of quartz along with a variety of feldspar minerals and micas.
WHAT IS QUARTZ STONE?
Quartz stone is non-porous; its polished surfaces don’t need to be sealed, like granite or other natural stones, in order to keep them from staining. Quartz stone surfacing is practically indestructible and pretty much maintenance free. It resists stains that are caused by fruit juices, wine, food colouring, fingernail polish and remover, tea and markers. The non-porous and non-absorbing nature of quartz stone surfaces is very hygienic; it does not harbour bacteria, which makes it a safe choice for food handling in the kitchen. Cleaning your quartz stone kitchen counter tops is quite easy. It involves using a little soapy water or a mild cleaner.
